Turkey is not Arab
When you are proud of who you are, where you come from, and all that makes up your culture, (and isn’t that everyone, really?) you do NOT like to be compared to someone else, ESPECIALLY, when that someone else makes the news for less than pleasant reasons.
Turkey is not an Arab country
Why do we even think this? If you look at a map, it is easy to see that Turkey isn’t even on the Arabian Peninsula. I guess we should all brush up on our geography. I think some people just think that everyone ‘over there’ is Arab, or perhaps everyone who is Muslim must also be Arab, but that is NOT so.
So, a little primer, in short –
*Arabs come from the Arabian peninsula and speak Arabic.
*Turks come from Turkey and speak Turkish.
Seems easy, peasy lemon squeezy when you put it like that, doesn’t it?

Turkey is not Arab: Why does it matter?
When you are traveling with the kids and teaching them to be global citizens, distinctions like this matter a LOT. Traveling teaches kids to understand and appreciate the differences between cultures and value the similarities. There is something wonderfully worthwhile for both Arabic and Turkish cultures, but let’s give them each the credit – and separation they deserve.
