Timeshare Renting Option: Guest Post
Timeshare Resales: Don’t Pay Resort Prices!
If you’ve been on vacation recently you might have been persuaded by your resort or hotel to attend a timeshare presentation in exchange for free concert tickets, meal coupons, travel and other perks. These presentations are heavily advertised and stocked with salespeople pushing you to purchase on the spot. Ever wonder why such attractive incentives are offered for these presentations? Because developers such as Westin, Hilton and Marriott easily make up the marketing costs from those who make the impulse purchase. In fact, about 50% of the cost of a property bought through a developer is used to pay for these incentives and marketing costs. There’s a better way!
Enter Timeshare Resales
Timeshare resales are basically “used” properties that you can purchase or rent out from existing owners for a much cheaper price. Think of it like buying an unscratched used movie on DVD still in the case. The core benefit of the product is the same, but the packaging is a little bit different. Except in this case, many prefer the resale timeshare package over the original because pushy salespeople are left out of the picture.
What Is a Timeshare and Why Is It Perfect for Families?
Now that you’ve learned why timeshare resales are such a bargain, let’s talk about what exactly they are and why they’re a great option for families. In short, a timeshare is shared ownership of vacation real estate at a resort, hotel, condo etc. where a purchaser owns a period of time (often one week) every year or every other year.
Timeshares offer many benefits over hotels that make them perfect for family vacations including:
More square feet and better furnished
Full kitchens to save on dining out costs
More than one bathroom
Separate bedrooms for the kids
The most popular unit configuration is a two-bedroom layout, but these benefits can change depending on the type of timeshare bought or rented. For example, not all properties have separate bedrooms for the kids and two bathrooms, but most have kitchens and more square feet than hotel rooms.
How Do Timeshare Rentals Work?
Timeshare rentals are a great option for families who’d like to experience all of the benefits a timeshare can offer without purchasing one themselves. The key to a successful timeshare rental arrangement is to plan 9-12 months in advance.
It works like this:
You find a timeshare owner offering to rent out their week using a site like SellaTimeshare.com.
You contact the owner through the platform and negotiate a price. The owner will have a rental price listed, but negotiations are common.
The owner confirms the use of the unit with the resort and provides your name and contact details to the resort.
Once the booking is made, the resort will send written confirmation in the renter’s name to the owner.
The owner waits for your payment before forwarding on the written confirmation to you.
You arrive at the resort and check in as normal.
Rental processes differ by resort, but this is the general process.
