Do you need a vacation?
Do you need a vacation? What a silly question! Of course you need a vacation. Who doesn’t? We tend to work too hard and play too little. Does every Monday have you ready to press the escape key? Now, the stress from work doesn’t even take the weekend off because we are all connected with technology.
Do You Need a Vacation? Take ALL the Vacation Time.
This is the only life you get so make the best of it! According to CNN Money, the majority of Americans do not take all their vacation days.
“Only 23% of workers surveyed said they used all of their paid time off in the last 12 months. The average U.S. worker leaves almost half of his or her vacation days on the table.”
You should take your vacation time!! Why?
When you don’t take your vacation time you are working for FREE! According to CNN Travel, a study shows that Americans gave up $52.4 BILLION in time off benefits in 2013.
“American workers turned their backs on a total of 169 million days of paid time off, in effect “providing free labor for their employers, at an average of $504 per employee,” according to the study.”
That just blows my mind. Days off are a part of your benefit package so…if you don’t take your vacation you are saying, “No, thank you.” to part of your pay. That is just crazy talk! According to Fast Company, your salary is only 70% of your total compensation. You work hard for ALL of your take home benefits so don’t give any away for free. Take those vacation days!
Do You Need a Vacation? How Long Should a Vacation Be?
How long does a vacation need to be? Well, science can tell us! According to studies done by a Finnish University say that the magic length for the BEST vacation is…… 8 days. When was the last time you had an 8 day vacation? Too long ago, right?
What about longer vacations like the two weeks I like to spend? I figure if you are going to fly ALL the way to Europe or Asia you need to spend some time there. Airline tickets so far away are expensive, too.
What about short vacations like three day weekends?
Do You Need a Vacation? When Should You Start Planning a Vacation?
It is never too early to start planning the next one. Saving for the next one. Daydreaming about the next one! As a matter of fact, the 2 to 4 weeks BEFORE a vacation are a happy time, too! The anticipation of a trip makes us feel happy.
What about that bummed out feeling you get when you return from a vacation? It is real! The positive good feelings dissipate in the weeks after a trip. What do you do when the happy feelings wear off? Revisit your trip! Look at photos. Read through travel journals. Watch movies and read books about your vacation destination. Now is the time for daydreaming! Then, of course….plan a new vacation!
Where do you go when you start thinking about a new adventure? Do you head to the internet and websites like this one? Is the book store your first stop? Is a travel agency first on your list of things to do when you plan a trip?
This website is a good start! Just start looking at posts and when you find a spot that makes your heart sing….that is your next destination!
