Dream: Are you living yours?
Living the dream
The travel bloggers that talk about living ‘the dream’ have stories like this:
“We hopped off the corporate stress merry go round and took off!”
“We sold everything we owned and are now permanent vagabonds.”
“We never know where we’ll be and we love it! We have been permanently on the road for ________ months/years!”
There was a time when I read those stores and *sighed* as it did really look like living the dream.
Some of it sounds amazing!
*seeing the world
*no scheduling of plumbers/painters
*no baseball/swim team/soccer practices or games
*no housework (that deserves mentioning twice!)
But really….I would miss:
*my own bed
*friends/playdates with the kids’ friends
*dinners at familiar places where the waiter knows just what you like
*sipping tea on my own porch
*routine – especially an exercise routine
Still, it took me a while to realize I am living the dream. MY dream. I love routine and being near family and friends. I love living close enough to Aunt Sarah and Mimi that they can come over for the kids’ birthday parties and sports events. I love my own house and the stuff that is in it. I love our menagerie of 3 dogs, 1 hamster, and 1 fish.
I love having a gaggle of the kids’ friends over and taking them to a movie. I love the routine of standing under the tree in ‘my spot’ each afternoon to pick up the kids from school. I love walking our dogs each evening with hubby getting caught up on the day and making sure we get in our 10,000 steps a day. I love my life.
My dream also includes travel. I LOVE seeing the world. But, I love to research first and know what I’m going to see. I love looking forward to it and planning for it. I love the saving money for it. I love the packing and repacking the suitcases part. (The unpacking not so much. LOL!)
The good news is there is more than ONE dream. Live YOUR dream. Travel a little bit each year or ditch the 9-5 and travel full time. What ever makes your heart sing is the dream you should pursue! Love YOUR life!
Don’t pine away for the dream someone else is living – pursue your own. If that includes travel and you need help, give me a shout! I’d love to help you plan the trip of YOUR dreams.
Happy and dreamy travels,
Natalie, The Educational Tourist
